With the advent of technology, cell phones became a common sight in the hands of the people in the 21^st century.

Cell phones made communication more effective and easier than ever before. People from all walks of life carried cell phones.

Young and old, rich and poor, everyone started using the benefits of a cell phone. Even school going kids started demanding their parents for cell-phones. This led to the inception of a debate that whether school going kids be allowed to carry cell phones or not.

Advantages of Cell Phones in Schools:

Though denied by many, a cell phone in a school can be beneficial in certain ways. In times of emergencies, a cell phone may be the best thing at hand. If a student is feeling sick and unwell, instead of seeking permission from the class teacher and making calls from the school office after prior permission of the principal, a call can be made to the parent of the ill student from his cell phone so that he can be picked up from school as soon as possible.

This saves time as well as unnecessary hindrances. Apart from this, with the technological advancements, classrooms have become more student-friendly with electronic writing boards, microphones, slide projectors etc. A cell phone, in such a scenario, can be useful to find out relevant information relating to lectures on the internet.

A teacher might be looking for an answer which requires going through a book kept in the library whereas with just a few minutes on the cell-phone, the same answer can be located.

Disadvantages of Using Cell Phones in School:

Though there are certain advantages of using cell phones in the school, there are more disadvantages for that matter. Children may misuse the cell phone for playing games, listening to music and watching videos. Such activities of the students not only disturb the sanctity of the class but also the concentration of other students who are actually trying to listen to the lecture with dedication.

Children may even use their cell phones to access pornography and other such explicit content with the use of internet available on their phones. Cell phones disturb the disciplined atmosphere in the class and cause unnecessary disturbance. The reasons for their non-requirement in schools exceed the reasons for their requirements.

Conclusion:

One of the aspects of technological advancements has been the cell-phone. A cell phone comes with both advantages as well as disadvantages. The debate to allow cell phones in schools or not has been going on for a long time now. There is a difference of opinion relating to its reliability and misuse. Cell phones are liable to be misused more than utilized in a proper way in schools.

Children at that age remain mischievous and deceitful. They do not like to be told what to do and how to do it. Thus, imposing discipline on them is the first priority of the teachers. If cell phones are given to them, these children will become undisciplined.
