Observed in the month of Margali (December – January) in Tamil Nadu, on the day with the asterism tiruvatirai, the Arudra festival is especially important to Lord Nataraja in all temples, particularly a significant one at Cidambaram.
Though the devotees perform special holy bath (abhisekham) to Nataraja for 6 times a year at Cidambaram, but the holy bath on Arudra day is supposed to be meritorious and conducted with eclat.
