This is held in the month of Shravana (July—August) with great devotion in the temple of Rangaji at Vrindavan, Mathura.
Myth tells us that Lord Vishnu deputed His elephant to collect flowers for him. While he was doing so, a crocodile caught hold of his leg and began to drag him into the water.
The elephant in a state of distress called out to the Lord to save him. He was saved the crocodile was killed. To recall the occasion, effigies of an elephant and crocodile are made and left in the tank to float about.
