Here is your short paragraph on Halashashti:
The festival occurs in the month of Bhadrapad (August-September) and is performed by the farmers and peasants.
Every year on this day, they worship ‘Hala’ (i.e. the plough), the implement used for ploughing the fields.
The iron blade of the plough is decorated by applying powdered rice and turmeric and then decorated with flowers. The day is the complete rest for the farmers and the lands are not ploughed on this day.
ADVERTISEMENTS:
Fasts are observed during the day and in the evening the puja is performed in honour of Lord Shiva and his blessings are sought for the welfare of the families. A grand feast is held at the end.
