I am Sujata Chakraborthy. I live in a beautiful ancient city known as Kolkata. It is the capital of West Bengal. It is the 2nd largest city & 4th metropolitan cities of our country. It is also known as the city of joy due to its diversity & wonders.
I love my city very much and I am proud to be a part of it. It is full of life.
The city was named as “Calcutta” until 2001 but later it was named as “Kolkata” due to its Bengali pronunciation. This city was made by the British Empire. The name Kolkata represents “Kalik khetro” which is a village. Kalik khetro means the land of Goddess Kali. Comparing other cities in India Kolkata was the 1st city to offer underground services.

Kolkata is mainly a tourist destination from people all around the world. Each year thousands of people come and visit the city to experience its rich cultural heritage. From 1773 to 1911 Kolkata was the capital of British India.
If you are planning to come to Kolkata through air you have to book the flight for “Netaji Subash Chandra Bose International Airport”. The main city is twenty kilometres away from the airport. If you are planning to come through rail you have to book tickets for Howrah or Sealdah station that connects Kolkata to other major cities in the country.

Some of the best attractions to visit in Kolkata are the Victoria Memorial, Birla Planetarium, Nicco Park, Saheed Minar, Howrah Bridge, Writer’s Building, National Library, Fort Williams, Marble Palace and Botanical Gardens.
Kolkata’s attractions also lies in its unusual public transportation system as it offer multiple modes of transport like hand puller rickshaw to older trams & metro trains to boats. The best time to visit the city is during its biggest festival which is the Durga Puja. At that time the entire city is dressed up in amazing lights & stay awake twenty four hours with big crowd migrating from various parts of West Bengal & other parts of the world.
Durga Puja takes part in the 10th month of the year i.e. in the month of October. You must come and visit my city Kolkata to experience its cultural beauty. The uniqueness of the city lies in its people. If you are looking for a city with a soul you do not have any other choice apart from my own beautiful city Kolkata.
